UNDERWATER ROOM (2023)

After finding a concept art (left), I have expanded to have a landscape reference to work with. From the original work, my team and I set a story of a girl in the underwater room, who is in her "zone" while playing music. With that background story, we decided to fill the room with other musical instruments and elements to further represent her characteristics and love for music and sea creatures.

A golden hour lighting is shown in the original concept art so my team and I wanted to explore other lightings that would set different atmosphere of the scene. After a few experiments, we decided to add a transition from dark to yellow lighting. A simple yet drastic change to the lighting, going from a reserved, quiet mood to a vibrant, bright atmosphere, adds a nice touch to the scene. If there was one thing I would like to change in this project, I would explore more on the Look Dev and play around with more stylized looks of each prop to add more uniqueness to it.

BARBERSHOP (2022)

Concept art by Peng Zhou
The most challenging part of this project was the Look Dev. Since the original art is in black and white with no textures shown, I dedicated a good amount of time building the overall color palette and textures for everything to blend in cohesively. I would love to go back to this project and add something to the outside of the barbershop, whether it would be a street full of old vintage cars or a busy street of New York City. Including such details would add more to the story of the scene.
